We started out our day bright and early once more with a delicious breakfast in the clover cafe (yummmmm)! Then we all jumped on the bus ready to tackle our morning at Mount Vernon.  I gave a short news cast on our adventures for the day including some interesting facts on Mount Vernon and breaking news in Kansas.  Our AWESOME PA Mikayla led us through a workshop over the time it took is to travel to Mount Vernon on defining citizenship and leadership; then we had some heated discussion on various topics about being a good leader or citizen.  When we arrived at Mount Vernon we all watched a movie on the life of George Washington the toured his mansion. After the tour we were released and split up to go see the 16 sided barn which was amazing; the museum, including George Washington's teeth; and the educational area with a 4D movie complete with snow!  After touring many delegates purchased gifts and we headed back to the 4-H center through the historic town of Alexandria.  When we returned we enjoyed a fantastic lunch from the clover cafe.  Then we headed to our bill writing workshops and discussed with our opposing groups amendments that could be made on our bills.  After those we attended committee meetings and headed to a delicious dinner in the clover cafe!  After dinner it was time for our night view of monuments in Washington D.C..  Mikayla gave us some fascinating facts about the previous US capitols and history, and we saw a motorcade!  We went to the Lincoln, Vietnam, Veterans, Korean, WWII, and MLK Memorials.  Many of the delegates were fascinated with the architecture and patriotism each of the monuments had, and now have considerably more photos on their camera rolls.  Mikayla told us some touching stories about the memorials as we drove home.  After arriving back at the 4-H center we had our delegation huddle discussing our free delegation day activities such as a baseball game, shopping, and touring the smithsonian then reflected upon activities and laughs we had throughout the day:
Apparently bierocks are a Kansas thing because no one had ever heard of them.
People didn't think there were any lakes in Kansas.
We met a man at the Vietnam memorial who served in Vietnam and lost three friends and was there to find their names.
People thought Kansas was one of the nicest looking and politest states.
Listening to corny tour guide jokes.
Watching the sun set over the Potomac River.

Remember your reflection cannot be seen without the history and sacrifice of others.
Keeping it Classy,
Katie Buhler
