Dressed up with only a so many places to go, the Kansas delegation set out on the bus to visit
many memorials. The first stop was Arlington National Cemetery. Tour guides took us around
the cemetery in trams. We learned a bunch of amazing facts about Arlington including that it has
69 sections, and is the only cemetery with men from every war buried there. Next we saw the
changing of the guards ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Many delegates had
chills while watching. Two neat things while at the cemetery were a band from California who
performed and hearing a 21 gun salute. Next we moved to the Jefferson Memorial. While not as
impressive as the other memorials, we all agreed it has an amazing view. The last memorial we
visited today was the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidency Memorial. The memorial is split into
four sections. The best part is that because FDR was handicapped, the entire memorial is
accessible to everyone including blind and deaf people. Once back from our trip to the
memorials we ate lunch and proceeded to our committee meetings. The part of the Kansas
representation for the talent show committee including Zoe, Elizabeth, Reid, Sarah, Haley, and
Shaylee got to paint fun signs. After we enjoyed some needed time outside and physical activity
at the CWF derby. Tessa and Sam both MC'ed part of the derby. One of the best parts was
throwing water on each other through surprise attacks. After a change in clothes and dinner
delegates headed to speak with others about controversial topics. Before we split up however,
Kansas decided to show off our chants and completely beating the other states in a
"noncompetitive" chant battle. Lastly, we broke up into areas of the state to create plans of
action to better our communities. To end the night, we hung around the conference center and
even showed off our swing dancing skills.
